Julia has more than twenty-five years of experience in developing individuals and teams within the NHS. Since 2005, she has worked as a respiratory consultant in a major teaching hospital and has been interested in training and developing colleagues throughout this time.
She is a qualified Time to Think Facilitator and has introduced the concept of the Thinking Environment to many teams within the hospital where she works. She has facilitated individual, small group and team ‘Thinking Spaces’ for a wide range of colleagues from members of the Trust board to trainee nurses. She has included Time to Think methodology within both leadership and wellbeing programmes. She also uses a Time to Think model as the basis of a peer supervision group for the coaches in the Southampton Doctors Development Unit.
She has an Advanced Practitioner Diploma with the Academy of Executive Coaching (AoEC) and is an AoEC accredited coach. She coaches for the Doctors Development Unit at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and for the NHS Leadership Academy, as well as coaching private clients.
She has practised mindfulness meditation for many years and has come to learn the power of being fully present for others but also the importance of actively developing self-compassion along with self-awareness.
She has a particular interest in supporting individuals and teams to develop the skills of self-compassion to help to prevent burn out and in helping teams to work together as effectively (and enjoyably) as possible.
