Soshan lectures Actuarial Science at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). He is a qualified Time To Think Facilitator and he teaches leaders, parents and teachers how to create environments that help people think bravely and independently. He is currently involved in incubating businesses with a focus on social development and protecting the planet. Soshan serves as a Board member of the South African Mathematics Foundation. He is an actuary (Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa since 2008). He holds a BBusSc degree and a PgDip diploma from the University of Cape Town and has majored in Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science. He is currently completing an Honours in Mathematics at UJ. Prior to taking on an academic position, Soshan spent 14 years in the insurance industry in South Africa and the UK. He has developed insurance and savings products in many countries in Southern Africa, East Africa and West Africa. He served as a director of a life insurance company and a unit trust company in the Old Mutual group. He also served as a venture leader for Blue Marble Microinsurance in the Africa team and helped launch weather-index based crop insurance programmes that use satellite data to insure smallholder farmers against extreme drought.
