Arndt Melzer

I am a consultant anaesthetist and pre-hospital emergency physician. Most days that means being present with clinical teams in high-pressure situations — in theatres, in critical care, sometimes far from hospital. That experience of working under real pressure, with real stakes, shapes everything else I do.

Over more than 20 years I have worked across Europe and Africa, leading clinical services, founding postgraduate training programmes and supporting front-line teams. I know what it feels like to be responsible in complex, high-risk environments, and I understand the particular weight that comes with senior leadership in healthcare.

My introduction to the Thinking Environment came through coaching — and what struck me immediately was how well it translates into the clinical world, where the quality of thinking, especially in groups and under pressure, can matter enormously.

I am a qualified Thinking Environment Facilitator and work both one-to-one and with teams, executive groups and leadership meetings. There is something quietly powerful about creating the conditions in which people can actually think — rather than just react.

My coaching is grounded in positive psychology and humanistic principles. I hold a diploma in coaching and also design and run immersive medical simulations and educational programmes.
